Put in my place...

Jan. 10th, 2008 | 12:24 pm

I am about to become fifty years old and whilst that is just a number to me...he lied unconvincingly... it seems to mean even more to my other significant family members for whom I am it seems, about to reach the end of the line...

'Wow...fifty years old dad...' mused Kieran ' You must be the oldest dad in the world..' he enthused in that innocent, sweet way that just makes me want to eat him up. Of  course, in comparison to the other kids' dads i am a trifle on the old side...but  I look forty-ish and so can wing it when in their company..trouble is I think I'm thirty and often behave like I'm twenty and it was this which put me well and truly in my place this week..

I have no probs keeping up with technology...blogs..ipods..cell phones which do everything except it seems make a call..in fact all that malarkey i find interesting and easy and so  getting onto facebook seemed a good idea...keep in touch with people..indulge my networking gene and generally let the entire world see who I am and what i'm about...so I duly got me on it and began inviting friends...of course, I very quickly realized that all of them were younger...nay, significantly younger than I..in fact 30% of them are my children and the rest are my nieces/nephews and their significant others. It seems that anyone i know who is near my age is either dead, computer illiterate, can't be arsed or has tried it once..realized what I just have and packed it in..

Anyways..I persevered..with making contact and in my naive way assumed that twenty somethings assaulted via their facebooks walls by their batty old father/uncle would welcome me with open arms...how wrong can one man be?

Eldest and gorgeously frank daughter put it most succinctly...

' no offence , but you're ruining my credibility no-end with this wall writing...how am I gonna meet people with Popsie checking out everything that's written on the facebook wall? Already shockwaves are rippling through ...blah..de..blah..etc

And so...my all too brief sojourn on the young 'un's walls is at an end but I shall persevere with the facebook interweb thingy and try to link up to my blog and use it to it's full potential ...or to my own techy limit..whichever is the sooner..

Good timing...

Jan. 10th, 2008 | 06:17 pm

I have sprung forth the most amazingly witty daughters...good timing..sardonic when required..with a nifty line in put downs and little fear of offending the recipient...it seems that at 7 years old..Kieran is continuing the tradition. P's mum is staying with us at the present which means of course that she and I get to behave like normal folk..ie we get a night off for fun and frolics. Anyhow..we're off out tonight so I'm bathing K early and tell him in no uncertain terms that there is to be no malarkey, shenanigans or other form of argy-bargy with his granma if she asks him to do something. So he thinks for a second or two and then pipes up..can we change that instruction to no unnecessary malarkey, dad..and sat there covered in soapy bubbles with a mischievous grin on his face...what can you do?
